It seems to me that there is so much information coming in to us through our screens that we voluntarily flood our minds with content that can summon anger, fear, and ideas that can be downright weird. You've probably heard the phrase "touch grass," and the best cure for me is to tune out the distractions and to go outside, where I can immerse myself in nature, and let it remind me of what is good, true, and beautiful.
This scene shows a hanging branch like an outstretched arm, with green leafy fingers reaching forward, striving to touch the life-giving clear water that flows beneath it. The sun shines on the leaves, the leaves create a refreshingly cool shade for the ground below. For me, the scene provides symbolic reminder to collect what is good (feel the warmth and energy from the sunshine), strive to move toward what really nourishes and informs (unmuddied waters), and share that goodness outside of our own selves (provide a comforting cooling, where you can). And also, finally, to be reminded that this river flows on before and after my own encounter with it. It witnessed other worlds upstream, and will also witness a world this little branch may never know.
